Who is this course for?

Current IRATA L1 Technicians wishing to upgrade to IRATA L2 or an existing IRATA L2 Rope Access Technician wishing to revalidate their certification. 

Qualification
A level 2 lead rope access technician is capable of rigging working ropes, undertaking rescues and performing rope access tasks under the supervision of an IRATA Level 3 Rope Access Supervisor. The candidate should have some knowledge of relevant legislation, safety requirements and quality assurance procedures relating to rope access.

Prerequisites

To upgrade candidates are required to have a minimum of 1000 hours and 12 months of work experience as an IRATA level 1 Technician and a current in date Level 1 certificate. This experience shall include a wide variety of work situations and techniques.

Candidates should be physically fit and free from any disability or medical condition that may prevent them from working safely. (If unsure, please contact us)

Candidates MUST have their IRATA logbook prior to the commencement of the training course. If the logbook has been lost a replacement must be obtained from IRATA with the hours verified before the course starts. Photo ID such as a drivers' licence or passport is also required for the assessment.

Course Content

The course will cover the range of tasks undertaken by an IRATA Level 1 plus:

  • Additional rigging of ropes, deviations, re-anchors, rig for rescue, restraint systems, and tension lines. 
  • Selection and use of suitable knots. 
  • Additional rescues: from ascent, through a deviation, re-anchor, and aid climb. 
  • Vertical aid climbing
  • Hauling systems, hanging haul, and mechanical advantages. 
  • Relevant legislation, theoretical knowledge, IRATA guidelines, and relevant standards. 

Assessment
1 day independent practical assessment and question paper

Certification

Upon successful completion the candidate will receive an internationally recognised certificate of competence in rope access and IRATA ID card.

All IRATA qualifications should be renewed or upgraded within 3 years of the date of the assessment.

Revalidation consists of a full assessment at the required level. If revalidation training and successful assessment are completed in the 180-day period prior to the expiry of a current certificate, a new certificate shall be issued with an expiry date three years from the date of expiry of the previous certificate.
