Working at Height with Personal Fall Protection Equipment – A Course For Safety Managers
Duration - 2 Days :: Course Cost - £400 plus VAT
This course is designed to provide Safety Managers with core knowledge on the limitations, use and care of personal fall protection and, in particular, fall arrest equipment. The course is a mix of theoretical and practical sessions including demonstrations of equipment use and destructive testing.
Some prior knowledge of working at height and the equipment to be used is an advantage.
The course discusses the regulations affecting work at height, including the application of a hierarchal approach, risk assessment and Safe Systems of Work. Different methods of work are explained, together with equipment requirements and standards relevant to each work method. In particular, anchor selection and the use and limitations of fall arrest equipment is examined in detail, together with the need for an effective rescue plan, post-fall recovery and harness suspension incidents.
Selection, management and inspection of personal fall protection equipment is covered, including examples of common failure modes of fall arrest equipment and destructive tests of webbing products.
Also included is the correct use of retractable fall arrest devices, including dynamic drop tests to illustrate the possible consequence of incorrect use. Finally, candidates are given opportunity to complete an optional practical climbing exercise using personal fall protection equipment.
Following the course, candidates will receive a Lyon Equipment certificate of Continuing Professional Development.
